This is really unfinished, but I'll post it anyway. It might be the basis of an article I'm writing for another website.
Breeding
There is not only an over-population of cats and dogs but also rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and much more. Millions of animals get euthanized every year in the United States because too many people decide to selfishly breed their animals for profit or "cute, cuddly animals." Shelters will not be experiencing a lack of animals anytime soon. I wonder if people would mind it if their babies to be sold for money.

Buying
Pet stores and their suppliers treat their animals like products rather than things with the brain capacity to feel. Could you imagine what it feels like to be trapped in your room and have 5-10, possibly even more, members of your species trapped in with you for a few months and barely ever get to leave the space? Now imagine having to possibly walk over feces and getting sick without veterinary care. That is the harsh reality of pet store animals while they're inside of the pet store. It's often even worse at their suppliers/mills. By buying an animal from these places, you are supporting the cruelty and neglect pet stores put their animals through.
