i was going to put this in the pro choice debate, but it really isn't the same thing so yeah... i've been really passionate about this (even more than the gay marriage issue) ever since i researched it for a project last year before it became a big issue here
anyway this is prop 4, it's only a california thing but it's a HUGE national issue in my opinion too
WAITING PERIOD AND PARENTAL NOTIFICATION BEFORE TERMINATION OF MINOR’S PREGNANCY.
INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.
* Changes California Constitution to prohibit abortion for unemancipated minor until 48 hours after physician notifies minor’s parent or legal guardian.
* Permits notification to certain adult relatives if doctor reports parent to law enforcement or Child Protective Services.
* Provides notification exceptions for medical emergency or parental waiver.
* Permits courts to waive notice based on clear and convincing evidence of minor’s maturity or best interests.
* Mandates reporting requirements, including reports from physicians regarding abortions on minors.
* Authorizes damages against physicians for violation.
* Requires minor’s consent to abortion, with exceptions.
the polls came out 50/50 (1,016,811 to 1,023,040) so I don't know what they're going to do yet, but i really hope it doesn't go through. I don't think girls should HAVE to tell their parents and get their permission to have an abortion. Of course they should tell them if they have a good enough relationship with them, but a A LOT of girls don't, and by the time they manage to get their parents to agree with them it might be too late and too dangerous to have an abortion, even a couple of days makes a huge difference when it comes to being safe...We just need to think outside our sheltered little bubble and realize that no everyone is lucky enough to have understanding parents they can go to if they do happen to become pregnant
i was talking to a friend about this earlier and he didn't agree with me so you guys might not agree with me either I don't know, just say what you think about the whole issue..
