Two neo-nazi skinheads, Daniel Coward, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, were arrested in Crockett County, Tennessee, on October 22 for allegedly plotting to go on a national killing spree, planning to shoot and decapitate African Americans, the climax of their plan being to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
The men met online and upon having the same views on white supremacy and politics, began their murder plot.
Their plans were to kill 88 people, beheading 14. 14 and 88 are symbolic numbers in the white supremacist community. They were going to travel through state lines, robbing for money as they went, and planned on robbing a gun dealership to gain the weapons for the attack.
The mens' plan was initially to target an unidentified predominantly African-American school, and to end their plot by driving at Obama as fast as they could, shooting at him out of the car windows. Both planned to dress in all-white tuxedos with top hats during the assassination attempt. They both were willing to die - and knew that they would - during the attempt.
On Monday, federal authorities charged the men with conspiring to steal firearms from a federally licensed gun dealer, possessing an unregistered firearm, and threatening a candidate for president.
When the men were arrested, agents seized a rifle, three pistols, and a sawed-off shotgun. Authorities allege that the two men were preparing to break into a gun dealership to gain more firearms.
Cowart and Schlesselman are being held without bond.
